Tiran Island
Coral gardens in the Straits of Tiran.
Tiran Island guards the mouth of the Gulf of Aqaba. Around it, the famous Straits of Tiran reefs — Jackson, Woodhouse, Thomas, and Gordon — are among the Red Sea’s most photographed underwater streets.
A Tiran day is a full sea narrative: leave the marina, cross open water, snorkel or dive multiple gardens, lunch on deck, and return with salt in your hair and a camera roll full of blue.
Underwater highlights
Expect hard coral plateaus, soft coral forests, anthias in bright clouds, and occasional reef sharks or rays when luck and season align. Visibility is often excellent. Even snorkellers can enjoy a lot from the surface when the boat anchors on the right shelf.
The rhythm of the day
Trips typically include several water stops, a long lunch break, and time to rest between entries. Conditions in the straits can change — swell, current, and wind all matter — so flexible captains and clear briefings are part of a good experience.
Who should book it
Anyone who wants a classic Sharm offshore day. Confident swimmers and certified divers get the most from deeper sites; beginners can still enjoy guided snorkel stops chosen for milder conditions. If you only take one full-day boat trip, Tiran or Ras Mohammed are the usual shortlist.
